The number of Coronavirus cases in India has reached to 24506 with 1429 new cases in last 24 hours among which 18668  are active and 5063 have recovered and 775 deaths. Maharashtra leads the tally with 6817 positive cases, 5676 active, 840 recovery and 301 deaths followed by Gujrat with 2815 positive cases, 2423 active, 265  recoveredand 127 deaths. Jammu and Kashmir has 454 positive cases with 340 active, 109 recovered and 6 deaths.

Awantipora encounter: 3 militants killed, ops on

03 militants have been killed in an encounter that broke out between Government forces and militants in Goripora village of Awantipora in South Kashmir's Pulwama district on Saturday morning.
Earlier, joint team of 50 RR and Awantipora Police launched CASO in the area on specific inputs about the presence of militants and during the search, hiding militants fired upon forces, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter, an official said.
It is the second encounter in South kashmir in last 24 hours as on Friday evening 02 militants were killed and police man received injuries in a brief shootout in Kharpora Arwani area of Anantnag district.

Cop abducted, rescued, 2 militants killed

Police party  killed both the Militants in Aarwani area of Bijbihara in South Kashmir who had abducted a Policeman in Kulgam District few minutes ago. Police says that the abducted police man was rescued, one police man was injured in brief Encounter.

The number of Coronavirus cases in India has reached to 23077 with 1684 new cases in last 24 hours among which 17610  are active and 4749 have recovered and 710 deaths. Maharashtra leads the tally with 6430 positive cases, 5307 active, 840 recovery and 283 deaths followed by Gujrat surpassing national capital Delhi with 2624 positive cases, 2254 active, only 218  recovered and 112 deaths. Jammu and Kashmir has 427 positive cases with 330 active, 92 recovered and 5 deaths.

The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee under the chair of Mufti Muneebur Rehman has commenced its meeting at the Met Office in Karachi  to witness Ramazan crescent.

Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, is meeting in Karachi today (Thursday) to collect evidences of crescent for Ramazan-ul- Mubarak 1441 Hijri.

In a statement to media, Mufti  Muneebur Rehman said that the committee will collect evidences for crescent sighting before making the announcement.
Adding that the (SOPs) prepared by the government will be followed to offer prayers.

It is in place to mention that, first time in the country’s history, an official of the Ministry of Science and Technology has been included (technical expert) in the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

20 new cases has been reported today, Rohit Kansal Spokesperson J&K Govt. Tweeded and confirmed. He added that  01 case has been found positive from Jammu Division and 19 from Kashmir taking the total 427 which include 57 positive cases from Jammu and 370  from and Kashmir.

Growth rate of coronavirus slows in J&K but no room for complacency: Kansal

saidt rapid testing and effective control measures in J&K have helped reduce the rate of growth of coronavirus leading to decrease in doubling rate.

Mr Rohit Kansal during a press conference, gave an overall update about the COVID situation in the Union Territory.

 He said that the testing rate in J&K has been increased to 703 per million, which is second highest in the country, while initially it was 77.5 per million.

“We were one of the first to have our own testing facilities. Since then we have been continuously ramping up our facilities. From a testing capacity of 50 tests a day, the number of samples tested yesterday was more than 700” Mr Kansal informed and added that the capacity will be shortly braced up to 1000 tests per day in our four ICMR accredited labs.

Covid-19-India has shown biggest spike with 1553 new positive cases in last 24 hours, taking the number of positive cases to 17265 with 14175 active cases. 2547 patients have recovered from the virus and 543 died of the deadly Coronavirus. Maharashtra has the highest number of positive cases with 4203 positive cases, 3473 active cases, 507 recovered and 223 deaths.
Jammu and Kashmir has 350 positive cases with 289 active, 56 recovered and 5 deaths.

Policeman shot dead in Hiller Anantnag

A policeman was killed after fired upon by militants in Hiller Shahabad area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday. He was present at home at the of incident.

According  to a Police officer, the militants opened fire upon the policeman namely Manzoor Ahmad Dar at Hiller village at around 9:35 pm. The officer also confirmed that the policeman was at home when the attack took place.

SGCT Manzoor Ahmad Dar, working as Munshi at Police Station Larnoo was removed to nearby hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

A police team has been rushed to the spot and further investigations are under way, he added.

Covid-19: 9 new positive cases reported in J&K, total cases 350
Besides, 23662 persons have completed their surveillance period.
“Some respite but but no reason for complacency; 9 new cases- 8 from Kashmir Division, 1 from Jammu Total cases now 350. Jammu Division-55 and Kashmir Division-295,” said the government spokesman, Rohit Kansal on Twitter.
The government has said that 59205 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance which include 7631 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 281 in Hospital Isolation, 260 in hospital Quarantine and 27366 under home surveillance.


Besides, 23662 persons have completed their surveillance period.

5 Covid-19 patients recovered, discharged

5 persons, who were hospitalized last month after testing positive for Coronavirus were discharged from Jawahar Lal Nehru Momorial Hospital Rainawari today, after repeatedly testing negative for the infection, they had contracted.

Nodal Officer for Coronavirus at the Hospital, Dr Bilques told that 5 patients who hail from Chattabal and Bemina areas of Srinagar city were discharged from hospital after their recovery from Covid-19 as they  were tested repeatedly and all these tests were found negative. These patients were discharged after 18 to 20 days and have been advised strict 14 days home quarantine,” Dr Bilquese said.

 Number of active positive cases in Srinagar is 55 followed by Bandipora 68, Baramulla 40, Kupwara 27, Shopian 20, Ganderbal 14, Budgam 6, Kulgam 5, Pulwama 2, Anantnag 3, Jammu 22, Udhampur 14, Samba 4, Rajouri 1.

Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday postponed the formal opening of Darbar in Srinagar till June 15 in view of extension in lockdown period and spike in the number of Covid-19 cases. The Darbar move which was earlier scheduled for May 03 will now take place on 15 June 2020, read an order issued by the government.

Two militants were killed in a gunfight with the security forces in Shopian district of South Kashmir on Friday, police said. A Police official said that security  forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Dairoo area of Shopian on Friday following specific information about the presence of militants there. Adding that he said the search operation turned into an encounter after militants fired upon security forces, who retaliated. A police spokesman Twitted that 02 unidentified militants were killed in the gunfight, more details are awaited.

A dead of an elderly man was spotted at Poru river near Seelu village this afternoon by some locals and on getting information from locals, a police team reached the spot and recovered the body.

A police officer told that the body has been recovered under mysterious conditions.

China dispatches 650,000 medical kits to India to fight COVID-19: Indian envoy

China on Thursday dispatched 650,000 Covid-19 kits to India to help fight the pandemic, Indian Ambassador to Beijing Vikram Misri said.

A tweet by Mr. Misri states that, A total of 650,000 kits, including Rapid Antibody Tests and RNA Extraction Kits have been despatched early today from Guangzhou Airport to India.

As its factories resumed operations after over a two-month grim battle against the coronavirus, China is busy tapping into the vast business opportunities of export of key medical goods, especially ventilators and personal protection equipment (PPE), across the world, including India, where both private and government bodies are placing orders for the import of these products.

Two major consignments of medical kits were reported to have been sent to India from China earlier as part of efforts to step up testing specially in hotspots during the current lockdown in the country.

99-year-old beats coronavirus

A 99-year-old Brazilian World War II veteran was released from hospital with military honours Tuesday after recovering from the deadly Coronavirus. 2nd Lieutenant Ermando Piveta, who served in the Brazilian artillery in Africa during the Second World War, was brought out of Brasilia’s Armed Forces Hospital to trumpet music and applause. Wearing an army-green side cap, he raised his arms in the air as he left after eight days as a patient. “It was a tremendous fight for me, greater than in the war. In war, you kill or live. Here, you have to fight in order to live, and you leave this fight a winner,” said Piveta. He served in the Brazilian fourth artillery regiment soon after the country entered the war on the side of the Allies, the army said. Most of JK is again pinning hopes on restoration of High-speed mobile internet as yet another extension of government’s existing order on 2G ends today.
On April 3, the government had extended the ban on high-speed 4G internet claiming it was “absolutely necessary to do so in the interest of the sovereignty and integrity of #India.”
“The directions shall be effective immediately and remain in force upto 15th April, 2020, unless modified earlier,” read the order then signed by Principal Secretary to Government, S.Kabra.

25 more people including 12 non-locals tested for the novel coronavirus in the Kashmir on Monday while two minor Covid-19 sisters were discharged from JLNM hospital here. .

They said twelve of the positive cases were confirmed from SKIMS lab and included nine from Bandipora and three from Baramulla. The other thirteen cases were confirmed at CD hospital lab and include 12 non-local residents from New Delhi, Gujarat and Kerela. The other is a resident of Kulgam. .

Jammu, Apr 13 (KNO): A policeman was killed  and and another injured while their weapons were also snatched after suspected militants attacked them at Kishtwar district of Jammu region.

Police sources told wire service—Kashmir News Observer( KNO), the militants  believed to be two in number attacked policemen in Tandan village of Kishtwar in Jammu. "One of the policemen succumbed on way to hospital while as another is battling for life " they said.

They said that militants also took away two weapons of the cops. A massive manhunt has been launched to nab the attackers—(KNO)

US 1514 deaths, in last 24 hours

Washington: The United States recorded 1,514 deaths related to the coronavirus pandemic over the past 24 hours, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University as of 8:30 pm Sunday (0030 GMT Monday).

The number of fatalities was lower than the previous day’s toll of 1,920.

The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 22,020 people in the US, the most of any country.

The US also leads the world by far in the number of confirmed infections, with 555,313 by the Baltimore-based university’s count. (AFP)

As the government augments testing labs with additional equipment and manpower, Coronavirus testing may see a massive scale-up in Kashmir in the coming days . Labs in Kashmir at SKIMS and CD Hospital have been directed to increase their testing capacity and help Govt. to “test and treat COVID19 infected people early and prevent further spread of the viral infection in J&K”. Government has also directed each district to collect at least 70 samples of suspected cases everyday and send these for testing. The goal, an official in health and medical education department said, is to “finish in five days” testing all individuals currently in quarantine and the contacts of those who tested positive. Div. Com. Kashmir, Pandurang K Pole, said government was vigorously helping the labs and hospitals to increase the quantum of testing here. “We have worked out the logistics and even today we have the capacity to test 600 samples a day,” he said. 100 Talibans To Be Released From Afghan Jails Today

The Afghan Govt. will release hundred Talibanis from jails on Thursday and in exchange the Taliban will release 20 Afghan security members, said a senior security official.
This is  oa part of confidence-building measures crucial for the success of the peace deal signed between USA and the Taliban to end two decades old war.
The release of 100 Talibanis is the 1st step towards a subsequent exchange of 6,000 prisoners held by the Afghan government and the insurgent group.
However,  Talibani were not available for a comment.
