Covid-19:- 775 deaths, 24506 cases-India

The number of Coronavirus cases in India has reached to 24506 with 1429 new cases in last 24 hours among which 18668  are active and 5063 have recovered and 775 deaths. Maharashtra leads the tally with 6817 positive cases, 5676 active, 840 recovery and 301 deaths followed by Gujrat with 2815 positive cases, 2423 active, 265  recoveredand 127 deaths. Jammu and Kashmir has 454 positive cases with 340 active, 109 recovered and 6 deaths.

2 Encounters are going on at Dragad and Kachdoora villages in Shopian district of South Kashmir between militants and the government forces, police said today. Three soldiers have been reportedly injured. “Two soldiers were injured at Kachdora while another was injured at Dragad. All of them have been evacuated to military hospital,” reported GNS news agency. Reports said that two to three militants are trapped in Kachdoora where 34 RR of army & SOG of JKP &  two to four militants have been engaged by 3 RR and 44 RR of army, 14 Bn CRPF and SOG at Dragad. Earlier, a militant was killed while his associate, who had recently joined militancy, arrested during a gunfight with the government forces in Dialgam village of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. 68 killed in fire

At least 68 people were killed in a fire at a prison in Venezuela's Carabobo state, according to a government official. "The Public Prosecutor's Office informs the public that in the face of the terrible events that took place at the General Command of Carabobo, where 68 people died in the wake of a fire, we have appointed four prosecutors to clarify these dramatic events," Chief State Prosecutor Tarek Saab tweeted on Wednesday. The Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigation Service Corps (Cicpc) as well as the Prosecutor and the director of the Carabobo Police Jose Aldama, are investigating to identify the cause of the incident, reports Efe news. Google Street View Proposal Rejected

An application by Google to roll out Street View through which one can explore cities, tourist spots, hills and rivers using 360-degree panoramic and street-level imagery, has been rejected by the government, the Lok Sabha was informed today. Hansraj Gangaram Ahir (Union minister of state for home) said Google had submitted a proposal on the Google Street View for the government's permission in July 2015 which allows users to explore places around the world through 360-degree panoramic street level imagery and view public area.  Ahir said that government has not agreed to the proposal. As per Google's plans, using the App one could explore Indian cities, tourist spots, hills and rivers through 360-degree panoramic and street-level imagery. Naxals ambush CRPF Team

A CRPF man was today injured in a Naxal ambush and IED blast in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, officials said. They said Maoists had set up a strong ambush in the jungles of Kondasawli-Jagargunda area in south Bastar district and troops of the 231st battalion of the force got engaged in it when they were undertaking an operation. A heavy exchange of gunfire took place between the two sides at about 9:30 am followed by an improvised explosive device (IED) blast, they said. "The Maoist ambush was successfully thwarted and a CRPF man suffered splinter injuries on his hand due to the impact of the IED explosion," a senior official said. The personal has been evacuated for medical care to the nearby Dantewada district and a search operation is on the area, they said. Thousands attend last rites of LeT militant

Thousands of people on Sunday attended the last rites of slain Lashkar-e-Toiba militant    Shafat Hussain Wani who was killed in a gunfight with forces in Arizal village of central Kashmir’s Budgam district around midnight. An eye witness said that thousands of mourners, including men, women and elderly, assembled in his native village Wagoora Baramulla after the news of his death reached there. Pro-freedom slogans were raised by the mourners as the body of Wani was laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard. Earlier, forces were deployed in strength in and around Wagoora area to prevent any untoward incident.  Authorities also suspended the mobile Internet service in parts of Baramulla soon after Wani’s killing.

Gunfight broke out between militants and the government forces in Dooru Anantnag on Friday night. Reports said that SOG, army and CRPF launched a CASO in Shistargam village of Dooru late Friday night after inputs about the presence of militants. They said that militants, believed to be two in number - opened fire on the forces, leading to an exchange of fire between the two sides. Further details are awaited.

The response time was 7 minutes and the Dial “100” response vehicle shifted the injured youth to SMHS Hospital for treatment and in the meantime, ascertained his identity as Fayaz Ahmad resident of Karnah Kupwara, studying at Degree College Bemina,” official sources said. Srinagar: An army soldier identified as Mohammad Ashraf Rather an SOG man Mohammad Yousuf (SPO) were killed in an ongoing encounter between militants and army at Check Fatehkhan, Halmatpora area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district. 25 killed and 18 injured in suicide bombing

In a suicide bombing in Afghanistan's capital on Wednesday at least 25 people were killed and 18 injured when people were celebrating Nawroz or New Year in the country, authorities said. The incident happened near Kabul University in the afternoon, Tolo News reported.  The death toll could rise as emergency personnel were attending to the victims on the scene. Witnesses said they saw many casualties on the ground soon after the explosion, which is believed to have been a car bomb.

4 militants killed in Kupwara encounter

Army claimed to have killed four militants in an ongoing gunfight today in Halmatpora Check forests in frontier district of Kupwara, even as no body has been retrieved so far from the site of the gunfight. A spokesman said that the operation is going on and the identity of the slain militants is being ascertained. The encounter broke out in the area around 3 pm today. "I can't confirm to you if four militants have been killed so far as no body has been retrieved so far from the site of the gunfight," SSP Kupwara Shamsher Hussian told Greater Kashmir. He said the militants have taken shelter in the forest area and are responding to the fire from the forces intermittently. Further details are awaited.

Gunfight broke out between the government forces and militants in Halmatpora check forests of north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Tuesday. A senior police official said the militants hiding in the forest area near a human habitation fired upon a joint team of Special Operations Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and army soldiers of 41 RR around 3pm. Additional reinforcements have been rushed to the forest area, he said, adding the area has been cordoned off. More details awaited.

Army man shoots himself in Qazigund

Sepoy Kulvinder Singh of 10 Sikh Regiment today morning shoots himself with his service rifle at army camp in MughalGund area of Qazigund while he was on duty official sources told News agency GNS. The solider suffered serious bullet wounds in the incident. Following the gunshot, the colleagues rushed towards the solider and found him in a pool of blood, they said, adding that the soldier was taken to nearby military hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

5 army men injured

In an inident of cross-border cease fire violation today 5 army soldiers were wounded in shelling in Mendhar area of Poonch district of J&K. Firing and shelling started today morning in Balakote sector of Poonch, resulting in injuries to five soldiers an official said.  The soldiers injured in the incident were identified as Lance Naik Gaurav Vishnak (34), riflemanBudha Rai (33), Naik Jitender Verma (23), Rahul Pandey (24) and Subedar Deshbandu (47). They were airlifted to Udhampur for specialized treatment.

Doctor terminated for posting anti Govt. post on Facebook

In the 1st case of opposing SRO 525 the J&K Govt. has terminated the services of Amit Kumar the Registrar of the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for an "anti-government" post on Facebook. He was appointed on contract to serve at the GMC Jammu. He is the first doctor to face axe under the SRO that bars an employee from writing against the government. In an order, the GMC Jammu said the doctor has “used Facebook and commented with the intent of provoking readers”. Principal GMC Jammu, Dr Sunanda Raina confirmed the termination of the doctor. “We have initiated action as per the rules. The doctor has been asked to explain his position,” she said.

Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) militant Jagtar Singh Tara, who was held guilty a day earlier for involvement in the assassination of then Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh in 1995 has been sentenced, to life imprisonment till death by a local court on Saturday. Beant Singh and 17 others were killed when "human bomb" Dilawar Singh blew himself up at the heavily-guarded Punjab secretariat complex here on August 31, 1995. 5 persons arrested in connection of weapon snatching and killing a cop

J&K Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested five persons who "conspired" to kill a policeman and snatched his rifle on January 25 at Chrar-e-Sharif shrine in central Kashmir's Budgam district. SgCT Shri Kultar Singh of JKAP 13th Bn was killed after a group of militants fired him while he was guarding the Charar-e-Sharif shrine, a police spokesman said in a statement. Youth injured in clashes

Reports said a youth was hit by teargas shell in his abdomen after forces resorted to heavy teargas shelling and aerial firing to disperse the protesters after the body of third militant was recovered from the debris of a house in which two bodies of militants were recovered on Thursday night which gutted in a gun fight between militants and government forces.  The injured was identified as Farman Ahmad of Balhama and was shifted to Sub District hospital Pampore.  Clashes were going on in the area when reports last came in.

Geelani rejects talks with India

Syed Ali Shah Geelani the Chairman of Hurriyat (G) has rejected an offer of dialogue by India, a spokesman said today. Hurriyat (G) chief spokesperson G A Gulzar, in a statement, said that an Intelligence Bureau (IB) official proposed a dialogue between New Delhi and Syed Ali Geelani. He said that Geelani refused to talk, saying "unless and until the Kashmir dispute is addressed in its historical perspective, all these attempts are futile." Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia ordered an inquiry on Thursday following the complaints about the Class 12 CBSE Accountancy paper being leaked. "Received complaints about the Class 12 CBSE Accountancy paper being leaked. Have asked officers of Directorate of Education to investigate and lodge a complaint with the CBSE," Sisodia said in a tweet. The Minister also said that swift action must be taken so that hard-working students do not suffer due to the "negligence of the Central Board of Secondary Education".

Army open fire to disperse stone pelting youth

Army today resorted to aerial firing after a patrolling party was pelted with stones by youth in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.  Soldiers of 44 RR fired several rounds in the air after youth hurled rocks at them in Batamaran village a witness said. The army resorted to aerial firing to disperse the youth. Army men left the area after detaining two youth who were later handed over to the police a local said. According to police no search operation was launched in the village. Army patrolling vehicle was passing through the village when some youth attacked them with stones, police said.

5 injured in accident at Chogul Handwara

A passenger cab heading towards Handwara town from Sopore met with an accident near Chowgal today morning resulting injuries to atleast 05 persons. The driver lost control on the speeding cab near Chowgal and crashed it into a drain, resulting in injuries to five passengers a police official said . The injured were shifted to district hospital Handwara for treatment, where their condition is stated to be stable, said a health official.

Police on Monday claimed to have killed three militants in an overnight gunfight at Hakoora area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Help to save 28-year-old girl suffering from multi-organ failure Srinagar A 28-year-old girl, Naseema Dar, is suffering from multi-organ failure since May 2014, her family said in an appeal for masses to help. Hailing from Sariwarpora Pattan of Baramulla district, Naseema developed nephrotic syndrome in May 2014 which resulted in a kidney failure. She was admitted to AIIMS for specialized treatment on March 5, 2015, bearing UHID NO.100841529 for the period of five months.
Naseema Dar, 28, suffering from multi organ failure During this period, the family said, she suffered left lung pleural effusion and was later operated upon in July 2015. Surviving of regular dialysis, on December 20, 2015, she was again admitted for evaluation of lung. A shoe was hurled at former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at an event here on Sunday, a day after ink was thrown on Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif. The incident occurred after Sharif arrived at Jamia Naeemia to address a ceremony marking the death anniversary of cleric Mufti Mohammad Hussain Naeemi, reports Dawn news. Video footage showed Sharif visibly shocked in the immediate aftermath of the incident. However, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader went ahead with his address, although reportedly shortening his speech, only to thank the organisers. The man was immediately caught and taken into custody.  The organisers said they were trying to ascertain the identity of the attacker and how he was able to enter the hall.

Visitors to Asia's largest Tulip Garden on the banks of Dal Lake here can enjoy free wi-fi access, in addition to many other new facilities, when the garden opens to public later this month. The Tulip garden will be thrown open to public on March 25.
"With the need of staying connected increasing by the day, the floriculture department, in collaboration with the BSNL, is providing free wi-fi connectivity to visitors," Floriculture Director Mathoora Masoom told PTI.
Masoom said several other initiatives have been taken to make the visitors, a large number of whom are tourists, feel comfortable during their visit to the Tulip Garden. "We have added more green spaces inside the garden so that the visitors can rest and enjoy the beauty of the flowers in full bloom," she said.

Dead body recovered in Pulwama

Bullet- riddled body of a 23-year-old youth was recovered in Pulwama district of south Kashmir on Sunday morning. Official sources said that the body of the youth was found by the locals and accordingly informed the police. The police recovered the body soon after information that the youth was lying in pool of blood at Ratnipora with body tied in ropes and identity card on his body, they said. SSP Pulwama Mohammad Aslam Choudary while confirming the incident identified the deceased as Mohammad Shafi son of Ghulam Haider Sofi of Samboora Pulwama. He said that that the youth had bullets in his legs. A police team has reached the spot and has taken up the investigations.
