Senior Congress leader and scion of last Dogra monarch of Jammu and Kashmir Dr Karan Singh on Tuesday urged PM Narendra Modi to rename Jammu airport as Maharaja Hari Singh airport.
In a letter written to PM Modi, Singh has urged him to change the name existing name of Jammu airport as it was built during the reign of Hari Singh.
Singh who has served as state’s Sadr-i-Riyasat and Governor, as per communiqué has asked Modi led government to clear decks for long pending demand of the region.
Singh deems renaming Jammu airport after last Dogra monarch will be a tribute to the “visionary man”, mentions the letter.
“I am writing to strongly urge that this should be done, as it would be a fitting tribute to the man who not only introduced a number of social welfare and development measures in the state but also signed the crucial Instrument of Accession on October 26, 1947,” Singh writes in the letter.
Last year in 2017 there was a controversy after BJP led an agitation over holiday to be declared in the state on Hari Singh’s birthday.
